A photograph by David Bailey called “Good-bye Baby and Amen” was the source for the sketch I did while a student. Years later I found it in a sketchbook and I particularly liked the compact L-shaped pose with the lower legs hidden. So I used it to model a relief panel to see if I could capture the mood of the sketch. Again, I used plaster moulds to explore the possibilities of the negative and positive relief qualities. I have always loved the clean lines and the use of wood in Japanese Tea House interiors, and this influenced the framing of each panel.
