Title1 Selected

Plaster low relief panel, wood frame.
330mm h x 640mm w x 50mm d.

In the Uffizi Gallery in Florence there is a reclining nude marble sculpture, life size in scale, on a raised plinth. It could only be viewed through a doorway, and the slide photograph I took was the initial reference for this piece. With life class drawings, and modelling directly in clay this low relief panel evolved. A plaster mould was taken from the clay model. I find this is a useful way to appreciate the 3D form and the composition, and most importantly to see the way the light plays on the edges and surfaces. The negative version of this particular piece also became a final plaster relief panel.
