HEAR NO EVIL - inside

This sculpture was initially developed from a photographic image in the Independent newspaper, illustrating a dance production. A figure bent double, as if rooted to the ground, with the ears covered; this was the posture that became the source for my first stone carving. I produced a high relief sculpture in Portland Stone, during a one-week stone-carving course in a quarry on the Isle of Portland in ‘99. This led to a commission. It was a coiled clay sculpture to be realised in the round, and for it to be sited in a garden, therefore it was high fired to withstand the weather. Two versions in clay of this piece have been made, one exterior, and the other for an interior space.
